Excellent Resource

State services are becoming more and more “web savvy,” and it is no longer unusual to find good information on the net from state resources. This is especially true for addiction treatment in New Hampshire. The Department of Health and Human Services runs one such site.

The missions statement says a great deal: “To significantly reduce alcohol and other drug abuse and its social, health, and behavioral consequences for the citizens of New Hampshire through public policy and resource development, education, and supporting initiatives that ensure the delivery of effective and coordinated prevention and treatment services.“

That statement is taken from their online resource guide, a reference which lists approved treatment facilities under several categories in New Hampshire. These include Short and Long Term Residential, Halfway Houses and Transitional Living, Private Treatment Programs, and Peer Recovery Support and Recovery Organizations.

There is also a toll free number where you can get a referral (800-804-090).

Of interest to treatment professionals, the DHHS site offers a connection to their clearinghouse and lending library, (located in Concord) where print resources exist for research and education on a variety of topics in prevention, treatment, recovery and intervention. Staff is available for questions and will assist in professional or public research. This is particularly good as a repository of studies and statistics useful for policy decisions or to support further research or grants.

Although there is much more available, another section is worth noting: the Recovery Support Services. This section covers state and national resources available online, including a “Friends of Recovery New Hampshire” forum community where those involved in drug treatment or who have been impacted by addiction can discuss current issues, either personal or just newsworthy.

This may be a case of our tax dollars doing something worthwhile – check it out.
